Gravestone Preservation

Cemetery headstones are valuable to historians documenting people's lives. Cemetery headstones ensure that people will be remembered long after paper or electronic records become obsolete. 

Pioneer & Military Memorial Park includes 7 cemeteries in use from 1884-1914:​

• ​Ancient Order of United Workmen (AOUW)
• Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF)
• Knights of Pythias (KofP)
• City (Loosley)
• Masons
• Porter
• Rosedale

Gravestone Preservation Fund

These historic cemeteries have about 600 markers left for the 3,700 named burials. Many of these stones are in various states of disrepair and in great need of preservative measures. This fund will be used to contract for a professional assessment and eventual preservation. This process is currently underway with Phase I February 2017. PCA volunteers received professional training with training of additional volunteers planned.

Memorial Marker Program

This program offers the opportunity for friends, relatives, and others to permanently memorialize early Phoenix pioneers interred in Pioneer & Military Memorial Park. There are a large number of graves in PMMP not marked or whose headstones are deteriorating due to the elements or vandalism. This program is intended to place new markers on known but unmarked graves.
